“Rewind Trauma Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive technique designed to help reduce the emotional impact of traumatic or distressing memories. Through guided relaxation and imagery, the memory is processed in a way that helps it feel less immediate, overwhelming and emotionally charged.
The aim is to support a greater sense of calm, control and emotional freedom, without requiring you to describe the traumatic experience in detail.”

What is Rewind Trauma Therapy?
Rewind Trauma Therapy is a brief psychological approach used to reduce the emotional intensity attached to traumatic or highly distressing memories.
The technique is associated with Dr David Muss, who introduced and developed the Rewind approach for trauma-related difficulties.
Rather than asking you to repeatedly talk through the trauma in detail, Rewind uses relaxation and guided imagery to help your mind revisit the memory in a more controlled and distanced way. The aim is to help the memory feel less powerful, less immediate and less likely to trigger the same emotional response.
Rewind is intended to be a short-term intervention. In many cases, around 2–3 sessions may be sufficient, although this can vary depending on the nature of the trauma and your individual needs.
What can Rewind Trauma Therapy help with?
Distressing memories
Helping reduce the emotional charge connected to a difficult or traumatic experience.
Flashbacks and intrusive thoughts
Supporting the brain to recognise that the event belongs in the past rather than continuing to experience it as an immediate threat.
Trauma-related anxiety
Reducing the fear, tension and emotional activation linked to reminders of what happened.
Avoidance
Helping you feel less controlled by situations, places, memories or reminders associated with the trauma.
Phobias and specific fears
Rewind may also be useful where a particular experience has created an intense fear response.
What happens in a session?
You will first be supported to feel settled and comfortable.
I will then guide you through a structured visualisation exercise in which you mentally observe the difficult memory from a safe psychological distance. The technique allows you to work with the memory without needing to describe every detail of the experience aloud.
The process is designed to help your brain store the memory differently, so that although you still remember what happened, the emotional reaction attached to it may become significantly weaker.
How many sessions are needed?
Rewind Trauma Therapy is designed to be relatively brief.
I usually recommend approximately 2–3 sessions.
This allows time to understand the difficulties you are experiencing, prepare for the Rewind process, complete the intervention and review any changes afterwards.
Some people may require fewer or additional sessions depending on their circumstances.

The Benefits
Rewind Trauma Therapy may help with:
Reducing the intensity of traumatic memories
Decreasing flashbacks and intrusive thoughts
Reducing anxiety around reminders and triggers
Feeling calmer and more emotionally in control
Creating greater distance from difficult experiences
Processing trauma without repeatedly discussing every detail
The goal is not to erase the memory.
Instead, the aim is for the experience to feel more clearly like something that happened in the past, rather than something your mind and body continue to relive in the present.
